John Deere sickle assemblies include the knifehead and end section for easy installation. To reduce plugging and prevent downtime, a section and one-half are used on most new platforms at the knifehead end.
The knifeback is made of cold-rolled, 1045 steel for increased strength, for more durability and long life, and to provide a straighter bar. The knifeback is drilled, not punched, for ease of service with rivets or bolt fasteners. It is also available in the bolted design. The bolted overlap design replaced the riveted design on twin knife platforms. It is easier to service and stays tighter in the field.
